Willie Creek Pearl Farm, Broome Cable Beach,Matso's Brewery, Gantheaume Point, Roebuck Bay Pre-Historic Adventure Cruise in Broome - Day 1 and Day 2
Gantheaume Point is best seen in the morning, when the sunlight hits the deep red pindan cliffs. With the turquoise ocean around us Gantheaume Point is a photographer’s delight. You may even spot the Osprey nesting here every year. Back in Broome town we take a leisurely walk to Streeters Jetty and Chinatown. Enjoy the best mango smoothie made by locals in Johnny Chi Lane in the heart of Broome. Refresh back at our hotel before a day of adventure and indulgence awaits us at Roebuck Bay. We travel by boat to Yawuru sacred site to see and stand in 120-million-year-old dinosaur footprints. Learn about the fascinating pre-historic past before our cruise continues along Dampier Creek inlets spotting marine animals and exotic birds.
Enjoy gourmet platters and sparkling wine listening to commentary about the mangrove eco system, heritage listed marine park, multicultural history of Broome, and William Dampier landmarks and cultural sites. At the end of our cruise, we arrive at an exclusive and spectacular beach for a 5-course tapas meal and cocktails. Our Broome cruise operates in the 4th highest tidal range in the world and our cruise times are scheduled around the changing tidal environment today. (Day 2 Oaks Hotel Broome, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park, Derby, Horizontal Falls with Flight, Boat Ride and Buccaneer Archipelago - Day 3 and Day 4
It is time to leave Broome behind and we head out to Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park. The park is a refuge home to some of the most dangerous crocs and was a dream come true for Malcom Douglas who produced famous adventure and documentary films for over 40 years. We continue our road journey to Derby, located on the edge of the King Sound with the highest tides of any Australian port. We explore the sights of Derby. Just on the outskirts of the town we find the famous Boab Prison Tree, which is believed to be over 1,500 years old. Not far from here, you can see the historic water trough which could water 500 bullocks at a time without running dry. During sunset lighting, we follow the Derby Marsh Art Trail. The locally made sculptures are stunning at this time of the day. At dinner we talk about our big and exciting day ahead. (Day 3 Derby Spinifex Hotel, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
A fabulous day is awaiting us today. Step on board a turbo prop seaplane and enjoy a morning flight directly to the Horizontal Falls. Experience the thrill of riding through the first falls on the fastest boat in the Kimberley. With our heart rate back to normal we cruise through the spectacular untouched surrounding bays and creeks. We have lunch on board a fixed luxury vessel, followed by a swim in the crocodile and shark free cage. We will discover that time really does slowdown in the Kimberley. After lunch we head back out by boat to see the tidal changes at the Horizontal Falls. With cameras ready for stunning photographs, we take a low-level scenic flight over the Buccaneer Archipelago and King Sound as we return to Derby. Having had an early start to the day, enjoy some down time in Derby mid-afternoon or do a little shopping or how about writing some traditional postcards. Tonight, we drive to the Derby jetty. The beaches are not golden silky sand but mudflats, mangroves, and swamps. Set up your deck chair and click away at the rush of the tidal water coming in. (Day 4 Derby Spinifex Hotel, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) Please note, that passengers need to be below 120 kg to participate on the Horizontal Falls Day
Travel the Kimberley Region from Derby to Fitzroy Crossing and Kununurra - Day 5 and Day 6 of our Tour
This morning we visit the Wharfinger Museum for some displays and history of the region and browse in the Norval Art Gallery. This gallery is run by the Kimberley artists Mark and Mary. You will find amazing artwork here including a wonderful and unique collection of carved boab tree nuts. We are now on our way to Fitzroy Crossing. The Fitzroy River level can rise by up to 16.5 metres during the Kimberley wet season. (Day 5 Fitzroy River Lodge Motel Rooms, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Sit back and enjoy the drive as we travel through open grasslands and vast floodplains towards Kununurra. Kununurra is located on the eastern edge of the Kimberley and home to plantations of sandalwood, mangoes, citrus, chia, and melons. Upon arrival we check into our apartments for the next four nights. There is time for a walk to the local lagoon surrounded by boab trees and home to an array of birds. Watch the sunset before joining back for dinner. (Day 6 Kununurra 4.5 Star Freshwater Apartments, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Bungle Bungle National Park with walks to Cathedral Gorge and Beehive Domes, Mitchell Falls Plateau and Mitchell Falls - Day 7 and Day 8 Tour Highlights
The Kimberley region is home to one of the most recognized features – the Purnululu National Park also known as the Bungle Bungles. Purnululu means “sandstone” a name given to the area by the traditional owners of the land the Kitja people. The park is accessible by air or along an exceedingly long and unforgiving 4WD track. This morning, we board our plane to this incredible and world heritage listed National Park. The flight path takes us over the Bungle Bungle Range, Lake Argyle, the Argyle Diamond Mine, and the Ord River Irrigation Area. In addition, you are going to see the stunning Carr Boyd Ranges, Osmond Ranges, the Ord River, and Bow River before landing at the remote unsealed Bellburn Airstrip.
From here we take a short 4WD bus ride to the starting point of our 3km guided walk. We walk throughout the famous eroded towers and black and orange banded beehive domes of the Bungle Bungle Range to Cathedral Gorge a large natural amphitheatre. Sit on the rock ledges, listen to the acoustics, marvel at the stunning cliffs, and absorb the atmosphere. After our picnic lunch in the gorge, we make our way along the dry creek bed of Piccaninny Creek and your guide explains the importance of native flora and fauna, as well as the six seasons calendar the Gija people live by.
After the completion of our walk, we take in the sheer magnitude of Purnululu National Park with an 18-minute scenic helicopter flight. Helicopters can fly much lower and you have a much closer look at the breath-taking Bungle Bungle Range and the spectacular Piccaninny Gorge. We all return to Bellburn Airstrip and depart this World Heritage Area of the Kimberley by plane to Kununurra. Our day in the Bungle Bungles is sure to be one of the many highlights on your Kimberley Tour. (Day 7 Kununurra 4.5 Star Freshwater Apartments, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
The Mitchell Plateau and the Mitchell Falls are iconic landmarks of the Kimberley, and we travel in comfort and style to witness this incredible area. Fly over the beautifully patterned mudflats near Wyndham, the magnificent King River, Berkeley River Gorge, King George Falls, and Kalumburu to the remote Mitchell Plateau Airstrip. A beautiful moderate 4.5-kilometer hike is ahead of us, and all fit travellers are starting the Mitchell Falls walk from the airstrip. This can be challenging at points, with uneven tracks and river crossings, in full sun and most likely very warm temperatures. It is only recommended to the fit and experienced walker. All non-walkers are transferred by helicopter straight from the airstrip to the top of the falls and have extra time at the Mitchell Falls. Marvel at their beauty and take a swim in the Mitchell River above the Falls. Admire the fascinating flora and fauna of this area and enjoy a fresh picnic-style lunch.
The only way down is by helicopter, and we all take a very short trip from the top of the Falls back to the Mitchell Plateau airstrip. We pass over El Questro, Home Valley Station and the Cockburn Range on our return flight path before touching down in Kununurra. After an early morning start enjoy a relaxing late afternoon before we join back together for a BBQ dinner and drinks. (Day 8 Kununurra 4.5 Star Freshwater Apartments, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Mirima National Park, Durack Homestead, Lake Argyle and Ord River Cruise - Day 9 Tour Highlights
The Kimberley region is home to an array of wonderful landscapes and another full day of stunning scenery awaits us on our tour today. Take a morning walk at Mirima National Park offering fabulous lookout views and rock. Mirima is known as the Hidden Valley National Park or the Mini Bungle Bungles with its 350-million-year-old rock formations. Refresh back at our apartments.
We then join a 70-kilometre informative coach tour to Lake Argyle along one of Australia’s most scenic drives. At Lake Argyle we will drop by the historic Durack Homestead Museum which is dedicated to the pioneering spirit of the Durack Family. Originally the homestead was built at Argyle Downs Station before it was dismantled and rebuilt in its new location preventing it to drown in Lake Argyle’s waters. Crossing the Ord Top Dam wall we see the Ord Hydro-Power Station and the size of Lake Argyle. We then start our 55-kilometer cruise down the spectacular Ord River through Carlton Gorge. Enjoy stunning scenery and an array of wildlife, including crocodiles, flying foxes and birdlife. Take in a beautiful East Kimberley sunset from the water – a perfect way to end a fabulous day in the Kimberley. (Day 9 Kununurra 4.5 Star Freshwater Apartments, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Zebra Rock, Ivanhoe Crossing, Hoochery Distillery, Sandalwood Factory, Airport Drop Off on Tour Day 10
Our Kimberley Tour is coming to an end, however not without seeing more local sights of Kununurra. We visit the Diversion Dam a 20 radial gate structure which was built to contain the flow of water from Lake Argyle. Geologists are yet to determine the origin of the local Zebra Rock which evolved 600 million years ago. Listen to a very informative talk at the Zebra Rock Gallery and perhaps this is the place for you to great buy a last minute and unique souvenir.
The local day continues to Ivanhoe Crossing and the local Sandalwood Factory, a great place to learn, smell and buy some terrific gifts for family and friends or treat yourself with pure Australian Sandalwood products. Enjoy our final lunch at the Hoochery Distillery, the makers of the finest Rum in the West and a place of genuine hospitality. Then taste award winning rum, whiskey, or coffee liqueur. And if spirits are not to your liking, why not try the mouth-melting homemade ice cream. Our 10-day Kimberley Tour has come to an end at 1.30pm, and we drop you off at the airport for a flight home or to your next destination. (Day 10 Breakfast, Lunch)

Such a lot has happened since the email re the pick-up time -but I wish it was all about to start again! What a fantastic trip you all organised–ran like clockwork from start to finish, & everything so good & enjoyable. The Kimberley are so beautiful –colours, rocks, mountain ranges–I was amazed & continually thrilled to be there. Flick–you do a wonderful job–organisation, careful driving, food, accommodation –all so well done–& handling the repeated questions with great patience. We were all impressed that you are doing this another 3+ times. Rita–what fun we had –you were great on the trip as you are ‘molto gentile”–Flick will of course survive without you–but its nice to have someone standing by. Your trip to Italia will be so good for you–but I doubt if it could be better than what we’ve just had. Diana–you missed out on hearing your praises sung! Everyone was most impressed with what you do behind the scenes–& said so–we all thought we may meet at the yacht club –but times didn’t work out. You & Flick have a great thing going eg everyone was studying the brochures on other trips–I’m sure you’ll hear from many of us again! This trip was unique–we were fortunate in having such a lovely group to travel with–all very nice, & kind–it was lovely for me! Again-what a great trip–what springs to mind now is the Derby Sunset,on the pier, G&T……
With gratitude to you all
