Coorong Tours – Salt Creek, Meningie, Goolwa
Depart Adelaide at 8.30 am and start your journey to the eastern side of the Coorong National Park. The Coorong is a haven for many millions of shore birds, migratory and endemic; some also call it a bird spotter’s paradise. We stop for a cuppa and lookout over the Murray River before turning off the highway in Tintinara. The Coorong Lagoon extends as one continuous body of water for over 100km, but at 42 Mile Crossing we can take a short walk over the Younghusband Peninsula to the untouched ocean beach. Enjoy the views and wildlife along the way. Our next stop takes us to Chinamans Well, a unique place in the local history of the gold rush days. The Chinamans Hut is an old ruin which has now merged with nature creating a beautiful historic landmark. The walk takes about an hour and is very easy.
After a short drive to Salt Creek, we walk part of the Lakes Nature Trail. The Coorong is not only home to the largest permanent nesting population of Australian Pelicans, it has visitors annually some of these being are the Red Necked Stint, Black Winged Stilt and sharp tailed Sandpiper. Some other birds to look out for are the Red-Necked Avocet, Pied and Sooty Oyster Catchers, Black Tailed Godwit and Masked Lap Wings. We continue our journey to Meningie in time to wander the shores of Lake Albert while your dinner is being prepared. Watch the sunset and the many water birds finding their resting spot for the night. Day 1 Overnight Meningie Hotel, Lunch, Dinner
Fleurieu Peninsula Coastal Towns
An early morning walk or a sleep in has us departing at 9.30am. We make our way to Langhorne Creek crossing the Murray River by ferry on-route. Enjoy a wine tasting and try a wide range of local produce at Bremerton Cellar Door. It is also a great place to buy a gift or two. We stop for lunch at Horseshoe Bay in Port Elliot before continuing onto Kings Beach from where we take an easy walk to the Bluff also known as Rosetta Head. It is a popular tourist attraction with 360 degree views of the rugged coastline, the sea and the township of Victor Harbor.
Join an optional 90 minute Wildlife and Sightseeing Cruise to Wright Island, The Bluff, Shark Alley, Seal Rock and Waitpinga Cliffs on any of our Friday tour departure dates. We arrive in Victor Harbor mid-afternoon with plenty of time to explore the local shops and a stroll across the causeway to Granite Island. Take a ride on the horse drawn tram back to the mainland or walk both ways. Enjoy a delicious dinner and a peaceful night in Victor Harbor. Day 2 Overnight Victor Harbor, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
